Educational Trips – Trip dates
The first program will be launched this July. The first trip is scheduled for
July 6th, with two other trips scheduled in 2008 as follows (including
arrival & departure dates):
July 6 to 12     July 20 to 26     August 3 to 9

The programmes include an in-depth programme on processing steps from
seed to availability of green coffee for exporting. It covers three days of training.
Participants learn the processing steps in theory, in addition they will be given
the possibility of hands-on tasks and training on the farm.

day 1 - biology to picking: flow chart for entire green coffee process,visit of
coffee nursery, composition of the plant, coffee growing areas, comparison Arabica / Robusta, cultivation preconditions, pest, desease and pest control, protection against
wind and sun, irrigation and fertilisation; hands-on e.g.: plant a coffee seed into the
seedling bag.
day 2 - picking to pulping process: witness the picking and the pulping process in the
factory; hands-on e.g.: selective coffee picking in the field; you may help turning over
coffee on the trays or to pick out unpulped cherry; if coffee is packed into bags you may
help filling or sewing the bags; plant your own coffee tree in the coffee garden
day 3 - milling and cupping: witness the process in a milling factory, green coffee
grading and defects, cupping on Utengule Coffee Farm
