Nursery

Each year 3-4 hectare of coffee shall be replanted in order to rejuvenate the plantation.

Coffee seedlings are very sensitive. This is why direct solar radiation has to be avoided. To protect the seedlings from the sun they are kept in seed beds under a screen.

To grow new seedlings one needs ripe coffee cherries. They are pulped and dried. Afterwards the parchment seeds are soaked in water and then planted into the nursery. It takes around six weeks until they start to grow. The young seedlings need to be watered frequently.
